Professional

I was granted the blessing of being able to keep a steady track of professional career beside my academic career till I started my Ph.D.

In 1991 during my undergrad at Cairo University I have worked over the summer with NCR Egypt on an Informix database system for the African Athletic Games.

In 1993 right after my graduation and before doing my M.Sc. I worked as a Hardware Support Engineer in Giza Systems (dealer for Digital in Egypt).

In 1994 I joined IBM Egypt as a Software Engineer. Working on the leading edge of Software development technology, I participated in two main projects within IBM. The first was a state of the art search engine, which included some innovative algorithms for searching and indexing text based documents. The second was a worldwide IBM corporate tool based on a client-server architecture with high scalability and reliability requirements. I stayed with IBM till the end of 1999 where I decided to take my long waited move to Canada. During this time I managed to get my M.Sc. from Cairo University.

In Jan. 2000 I joined Alcatel Canada as a Software Designer in the Network and Service Management department, where I was part of the team developing the market leading network management product (Alcatel 5620 NM)

In 2001 I started my Ph.D. career at UBC. I stayed with Alcatel till the end of 2002.
