Espiritu Santo (Holy Ghost) is a small island about 5km off the coast of La Paz. It is approximately 14 km long and 6 km wide. Its west coast is characterised by a series of bays with sandy beaches and rocky headlands. The east side is predominated by high cliffs with sheer drop-offs and has only a few beaches. To the north of the island is a second small island, Isla Partida Sur, which is separated by a narrow channel from Espiritu Santo. We spent 7 days kayaking along the southern coast of the island over Christmas 98 and then hired a beetle and spent New Year in the mountains on the southern tip of Baja acting like ageing hippies!.
