Frequently Asked Questions
OMAX Layout & Make
Question I drew my part in SolidWorks but I can't save it as a DXF file.
Answer Read the notes on creating a DXF file from a sheet-metal part (SolidWorks Tools page).
Question I have a pretty complex part and when I try to automatically generate the path, part of it is missing.
Answer Layout does not like open paths that start and stop very close to the same point. This is what you have when you think have a closed path but there is small gap somewhere along the path that is too small to see (when zoomed out). Try to figure out where the path generation stopped (there is usually a dot displayed) and manually go and close the path with a line. Then try to generate the path again.
Question I can't seem to insert a line to close a small gap in my part.
Answer Make sure "Snap to Grid" is turned off. If that isn't the problem, erase one of the existing lines to widen the gap first and then try to insert the new line.
Question When I clean my drawing, important parts of it get erased.
Answer Deselect the "Remove unclosed paths" option. This will probably result in the problem described above if you try to generate the path but you can fix the problems manually (as described).
Question

Every time I import a drawing, I have to resize it to convert from inches to mm.

Answer Select File/Configure Preferences. Under "Load and Save" you can select the default units for importing drawings. The default is inches.
