Sigfried Giedon
Tissaphern Mirfakhrai is a student at the University of British Columbia. He has studied composition with Prof. Stephen Chatman at UBC and privately with Dr. Ramona Luengen. Mirfakhrai has studied Piano with Bernard Duerksen, a student of Peter Katin, and Harmony with Christian Meyers both at the Conservatory of British Columbia. Before moving to Canada from his native Iran, he studied harmony and counterpoint with Dr. Mehran Rouhani, himself a student of the late Sir Michael Tippet, and composition with Abdulreza Sajjadi (professor of music at the University of the Arts, Tehran) and Dr. Ahmad Pejman, arguably the most prominent figure in Iranian classical music today. Mirfakhrai has won the second prize in composition in the second yearly national student festival of music, 1999, Iran. He has also studied the principles of musical performance and ear training with Dr. Sharif Lotfi, the chair of the Music school at the University of Arts in Tehran.
