Some random thoughts...
September 14, 2003 (2:02AM)
Roller hockey was fun *yesterday* =) Hope we can play more often in the future!! Life has been a little rough for me these days, various uncertainties... But just like roller blading from Science World to Stanley park, we don't always get the nicely paved road with a gentle down slope. There's times when the road is rough and winding and you feel brain dead (literally) blading on the rough surface of the road. Sometimes it's those uphill climb that stresses you out (But we've got friends that may be biking and aid you in climbing those hard times). What about you? Are you going through some rough road? Or a little stressed out at an uphill that doesn't seem to end? Are you too focused on the path in front that you forgot the beautiful scenery that's just right next to you, or people who are cruising right next to you?
Anyways, just some random thoughts that suddenly popped up in my mind. I was originally planning to simply put an advertising link for some cool events that will be held in my church for the next 2 weeks. Here is the poster. The game of life is fun and inspiring if you haven't played that before. Even if you have, I think you will always get some fun and inspiration out of it. The other event is a touching story about a doctor who died from SARS in HK just the past summer.
Here's a hymn I'd like to share for those who may be reading this and have been feeling distressed for a while. Somehow, in some special way, he'll make a way for you who is special and unique and his eyes.
God will make a way
Where there seems to be no way
He works in ways we cannot see
He will make a way for me
He will be my guide
Hold me closely to His side
With love and strength for each new day
He will make a way He will make a way
By a roadway in the
wilderness
He'll lead me
And rivers in the desert will I see
Heaven and earth will fade
But His word will still remain
He will do something new today.

This is not intended to be a
scripture sharing site, but today when I continue on with Romans, I was once
again reminded and inspired from the passage. I was reading Romans Chapter
14 tonight and in short, the passage teaches about not to pass judgment on
others. Paul used eating as a teaching, saying that some look down at
people who eat meat, and some look down on people who eat vegetable. I
guess that was relevant to the Romans church at the time where people valued
what they eat to be utmost importance and that they somehow relate their eating
practice to their Christian faith. Extending to day to day life for us,
this passage provides a very good reminder for me that a lot of times in church,
we very quickly place judgment on things that may not really be relevant to our
Christian faith. For example, different types of Christian music like rock
music, worship dancing, the way a fellowship program is run, the way the chairs
should be organized. Sometimes we are too obsessed in these details and
become critical on what others do. There's really much to learn! I
guess it all goes back to the previous chapter of Romans, which is to have a
loving heart for others, that will probably solve some problems. I really
like this passage and it is a good reminder and lesson for me because a lot of
times I fall into such trap. I hope it serves as a reminder for you also!
Read it when you have time =)
Accept him whose faith is weak,
without passing judgment on disputable matters. One man's faith allows him to
eat everything, but another man, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables. The
man who eats everything must not look down on him who does not, and the man who
does not eat everything must not condemn the man who does, for God has accepted
him. Who are you to judge someone else's servant? To his own master he stands or
falls. And he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.
One man considers one day more sacred than another; another man considers every
day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. He who regards
one day as special, does so to the Lord. He who eats meat, eats to the Lord, for
he gives thanks to God; and he who abstains, does so to the Lord and gives
thanks to God. For none of us lives to himself alone and none of us dies to
himself alone. If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the
Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. For this very reason,
Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead
and the living. You, then, why do you judge your brother? Or why do you look
down on your brother? For we will all stand before God's judgment seat. It is
written:
" 'As surely as I live,' says the Lord, 'every knee will bow before me;
every tongue will confess to God.' "
So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God. Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother's way. As one who is in the Lord Jesus, I am fully convinced that no food is unclean in itself. But if anyone regards something as unclean, then for him it is unclean. If your brother is distressed because of what you eat, you are no longer acting in love. Do not by your eating destroy your brother for whom Christ died. Do not allow what you consider good to be spoken of as evil. For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and approved by men.
Let us therefore make every effort
to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification. Do not destroy the work of
God for the sake of food. All food is clean, but it is wrong for a man to eat
anything that causes someone else to stumble. It is better not to eat meat or
drink wine or to do anything else that will cause your brother to fall.
So whatever you believe about these things keep between yourself and God.
Blessed is the man who does not condemn himself by what he approves. But the man
who has doubts is condemned if he eats, because his eating is not from faith;
and everything that does not come from faith is sin.

Read a very meaningful passage tonight from Romans Chapter 13 and would like to post it. There's always so much to learn from God's words. May this passage also benefit visitor of this website =)
Let no debt remain outstanding,
except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman
has fulfilled the law. The commandments, "Do not commit adultery," "Do not
murder," "Do not steal," "Do not covet," and whatever other commandment there
may be, are summed up in this one rule: "Love your neighbor as yourself." Love
does no harm to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
And do this, understanding the present time. The hour has come for you to wake
up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first
believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside
the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.
Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in
sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather, clothe
yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the
desires of the sinful nature.

Do not be anxious
about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving,
present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all
understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

I was just talking with a friend
and she mentioned about letting things go. Yes, sometimes it's good to let
go the things we grabbed on so tight. Take a step back, let it go and God
will care for us and show us the way. I just realized that I've told my
friends about this a lot of time and now I am reminded about it also =) It
makes me think of some lyrics of the song "Perhaps love"
Oh, love to some is like cloud
To some as strong as steel
For some a way of living
For some a way of feel
And some say love is holding on
And some say letting go
And some say love is everything
And some say they dont know
What is love to you?

Each kid made a good-news symbol 去 remind about Jesus' resurrection.

Happy mother's day!! I saw an
interesting mother's day card at hallmark last week and thought that it's rather
meaningful. This is what the front and inside cover look like.
Thank you, because I know this is something you do for me =) I need
to learn to do the same!

又有excuse去delay writing my report.

Here are a couple of phrases I heard or read that inspired me.
"A ship in port is safe, but that's
not what ships are for"
"Clarity of individual values is the gateway to commitment and initiatives"
"You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of
conversation"
I am reading a book that shares an example of a simple mechanism that overcomes
our natural resistance to growth or change and helps us be our best. It
requires us to ask these 2 questions regularly:
1. What's the most exceptional
thing you've done this week?
2. What's the most exceptional thing you will do next week?
You can define the word "exceptional". eg. As simple as a kind word
or an unnoticed task.

My heart was beating quite fast... I am thankful I'm alive. Below is a sharing I just wrote. It reminded me again to cherish all aspects of life, with the theme of taking responsibility such as being a safe and law-abiding driver. I am once again being challenged whether I'm striving to live a life in a God-pleasing way or am I continuing to live a self-centered life? Black screen

Somehow, I am swamped with emotion tonight. Partly affected from watching a sad epic drama, partly because I was touched by a brother from church. I always think that ICQ conversation can rarely convey much emotion, I was surprised by the fact that both of us weep at the same time on an ICQ conversation. I really thank God for providing a brother so that we can support each other =)
Tonight, another friend of mine asked me "what will you do when you find out your gf is not the person you like the most? What if from the very beginning I just find this girl to be a substitute for my ex?"
It is sad that many of us hurt each other so much when dealing with relationships, including myself. I think it's time for us to look at our attitude. It seems that we all got into the culture of romance and feelings. Commitment, respect, and responsibilities seem to be fading away. I acknowledge that it's always easier said than done, God help us to learn to love.
"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."

Sometimes, I feel discouraged. Sometimes, the world does not give me peace. Sometimes, I just feel so bored and tired of GLUT, x-ray, CT, MRI...!!!?? Sinful, helpless, restless... But,
"Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful. (John 14:27 NAS)

Read this from Canaan fellowship
website today... A challenge for Christians!!
A good reminder that we are accountable for what we think and do!!
Someone asked me today: "Why does God need us? Why did he make us?"
I said because he's bored.... Okay, a better answer from Andrew:
"Let us make man in our image, in
our likeness, and let them rule over the
fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock , over all the
earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." Genesis 1:17
God has given men the most powerful thing in the world, He creates us in
order for us to enjoy, to govern whatever has been created. And God sees
that "very good."
