Nanoscale Science & Technology (NST) research group , lead by Dr. Md. Kawsar Alam [Associate Professor, EEE, BUET], is interested in both the aspects of nanotechnology: Top-Down and Bottom-Up approaches. In one hand, we explore current commercial trends of nanoscale methods/technologies and research on the devices compatible with existing technologies. On the other hand, We work on structures, methods and devices that are not yet available commercially, but may be the future of nanotechnology. We also work on analytical/empirical/semi-empirical/compact modeling techniques of different devices to reduce huge memory and time requirement associated with numerical simulations and to improve computational efficiency as well as understanding of physical phenomena of such devices. We are equipped with in-house 1D/2D/3D device simulators, widely used open-source molecular level device simulation softwares as well as some commercial softwares through our collaborators. We also have access to standard High-Performance-Computing (HPC) facility to run our large-scale simulation works.

We Explore

  • Nanoscale Device Modeling and Simulation [such as (not limited to) MOS transistors, HBTs, MESFETs, HEMTs Surrounding Gate FETs, Graphene/MoS2/Atomic transistors, FinFETs etc.]
  • Materials Science (Electrical and Optical Properties of Materials)
  • Ab-initio/First Principles Modeling and Simulation
  • Molecular Dynamics Simulation
  • Photovoltaic Devices (such as Solar Cells)
  • Alternative Text

    We're interested in

  • Charged Particle Interaction with Nano-materials
  • Nano-Electro-Mechanical Systems (NEMS) Design: Application of nanostructures in NEMS
  • Electron Emission Properties of Nanostructures
  • Electron Microscopy
  • Monte Carlo Simulation of Electron Trajectories in Solids and Nanostructures
  • Our research results are regularly reported in international journals and conferences. Some of our recent works have been published by highly acclaimed Journals and Publishers such as Small (Wiley), Solar Energy Materials and Solar Cells (Elsevier), Solar Energy (Elsevier), Organic Electronics (Elsevier), RSC Advances (Royal Society of Chemistry), American Institute of Physics (AIP) etc. Check the "Publications" page for more details.

The publication page contains a comprehensive list of our past/recent works published/presented in different research Journals or Conference Proceedings. However, you are also welcome to discuss your own research ideas. Currently, the group is open to the students for their theses only (both graduate and undergraduate). If you are willing to join the NST research group as a thesis student, feel free to discuss your options with the Principal Investigator. Explore this page along with the "Publications" page for getting some ideas on the research group members and their performed theses.
