For the file : 531_plaingauge_throughout_70-73.jpg Plain gauge-throughout frames were almost never made because most of the ride quality comes from the butting in the main triangle and the forks and the weight savings from plain-guage tubing was almost nothing. My plain gauge decal images have the bottom row of writing painted-over in black by the Carlton Factory. Carlton probably had some spare decals laying around, and installed them and painted over the words, "Forks, and Stays" with a paint brush. They also did this with 531-throughout decals. An image of the plain-gauge throughout decal also appears in Eugene Sloan's 1st edition "Complete Book of Bicycling". - Don Gillies San Diego, CA, USA
