CARLTON CYCLES FLYER VINTAGE REYNOLDS 531 ROAD FRAME 1940s *MINT*
Up for auction is this hand built and rare vintage Carlton Cycles "Flyer" Reynolds 531 Double-Butted Road Frame from the 1940s, 1948 according to the frame number. It has just been fabulously professionally refurbished by Woodrup Cycles with period correct Carlton and Reynolds decals. The paint finish is stunning, lustrous and impeccable in the original midnight blue flamboyant with gold luglining. The fork crown and fork legs are chromed. It comes complete with a brand new "vintage style" chrome headset. Carlton Cycles, amongst the best known British frame builders along with Holdsworth, Condor, Mercian, Woodrup, Bob Jackson and Roberts, were world renowned for their hand-built frames using the traditional methods to create frames that were recognised worldwide for the quality of workmanship, accuracy of construction and beautiful long lasting finish. This
particular frame is stunningly beautifully and elegant, constructed
with fine, neat brazing and distinctive lugwork, characteristic seatstay eyes and a lovely flat forged fork crown. The Reynolds 531 double-butted tubeset was designed to be used by professional cyclists both in road racing and time trialling. It was a direct competitor to Columbus SL and was complimentary to 753. Frames built from Reynolds 531 were regularly raced by the top professionals of the time including in the Tour de France and one-day Classics. In terms of condition it can almost be regarded as new with a beautiful lustrous deep finish; Woodrups's have done an extraordinary job! The chrome is perfect. This lovely frame would make a superb basis for a brilliant lightweight retro build with either a top flight Campagnolo, Simplex or Shimano groupset and Mavic wheels! Specification:
