Did you ever compile the files the files in a d:\documents
directory?  Did you reset set the project name?

Check that you've only copied only the vhd (and possibly scf)
files into the project directory.

The assignment doesn't require you to use them (in fact, it
explains that they aren't supported by the waveform editor so you
won't be able to use them in your test vectors).  For doing these
assignments you might be better off using constants.
