Marking Scheme for Assigment 1

Only questions 1, 3 and  4 were marked.   The assignment was marked out of 10. The marks are as follows.

Q.1 (4 marks)

1 mark for each of the following:

• - the free-space path loss = 53dB
• - Fresnel diffraction parameter    = 26
• - diffraction loss = 41dB
• - received signal level = -95dBm

Q. 3 (4 marks)

1 mark for each of the following:

• - computing the noise power properly (-120dBm)
• - computing the required signal    level for 20 dB SNR (-100dB)
• - getting the right standard deviation for 0.95    (1.65)
• - getting the right distance (15km)

Q. 4 (2  marks)

1 mark for each    of the following:

• - average fade duration    = 0.5ms
• - average crossing rate    = 20 Hz
