Mid-Term Exam

2019-10-22

The mid-term exam will be in two parts: Part 1 on Monday, October 28 and Part 2 on Wednesday, October 30.  They will be held in the scheduled lecture rooms.

Each exam will be 50 minutes long and will contain two questions.

The exams will cover up to the end of lecture 6 (Differential Signalling).  The first exam will cover the first part of this material and the second will cover the rest.

The exam is open-book.   You may bring any written material (notes, textbooks, library books, printed web pages, ...), but all electronic devices (cell phones, tablets, laptops, smart watches, media players, etc) except for a calculator must be left at the front of the room.  It is highly recommended that you bring printed copies of the lecture notes, including the Unicode table from Lecture 1.

Exams and answers from previous years are available on my course archive site .  You can use this material to check that you are prepared.

Cables for Lab 9

2019-12-02

I have left a couple of Cat-5 cables with RJ-45 connectors on top of the filing cabinet in SW1-3575 for those would like to complete Lab 9 on their own.   Your report must include Hexedit and Wireshark screen captures showing your name and student number.

Lecture instead of Lab this Thursday

2019-12-04

Since the last few lectures have been a bit rushed, I thought it would be good to spend the last lab session (Thursday, Dec 4 from 2:30 to 4:30) to review some of the material and go over the last couple of topics (ARQ and Network Protocols).  This should allow us to use the last lecture on Friday for review and the course evaluation.  We'll have the lab/lecture on Thursday in SW1-3555.
