Junbin Zhang (Thomas)

I graduated with a Ph.D. degree from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver, Canada. I was a member of the UBC Digital Multimedia Lab (DML), where I worked under the guidance of Dr. Panos Nasiopoulos.

I completed my M.A.Sc degree at UBC as well, supervised by Dr. Julia Rubin. Prior to joining UBC, I earned two B.Eng. degrees (through a "2 + 2" program) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Sun Yat-sen University.

Research Interests:

  • My Ph.D. research focused on detecting, attributing, and localizing manipulated images, with an emphasis on models trained using raw-image pipelines, sensor-level artifacts, and frequency-domain analysis for AI-generated and deepfake content.
  • I was also involved in projects related to multimedia technology (e.g., high dynamic range imaging, tone mapping, and virtual reality).
  • During my master's degree, I conducted empirical research on mobile security and privacy, including a large-scale evaluation of Android static taint analysis tools.

Below are a few featured publications.
