Junbin ZHANG (Thomas)

I am a PhD candidate in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver, Canada. I am currently a member of the UBC Digital Multimedia Lab (DML), where I work under the guidance of Dr. Panos Nasiopoulos.

I completed my M.A.Sc degree at UBC as well, supervised by Dr. Julia Rubin. Prior to joining UBC, I earned two B.Eng. degrees (through a "2 + 2" program) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Sun Yet-sen University.

Research Interests:

  • My PhD research focuses on detection of manipulated images and videos (e.g., detection of deepfakes and AI-synthesized content).
  • I am also involved in projects related to multimedia technology (e.g., high dynamic range imaging, tone mapping, and virtual reality).
  • I explored mobile security and privacy (e.g., static taint analysis) for my master's degree.
