South Asia Trip (Sept - Dec 2002)

Lahore
Capital of Punjab State
Main Languages: Urdu and Punjabi

My cousin Khurrum and I took a trip to Northern Pakistan and stopped in Lahore on our way back to Karachi.  we were there for 3 days in late September and stayed with a friend, Rashad.  Legend has it that Lahore was founded 4000 years ago!  For 200 years, beginning in 1525 AD, Lahore was a thriving cultural centre of the great Mughal empire.

Lahore Fort

The fort was mostly constructed by Mughal Emperor Akbar the Great in 1566.  Every succeeding Mughal Emperor, Sikhs and British added a pavilion, palace of wall to the fort.  This was my first exposure to Mughal architecture.
