Jan Bergstrom

I am Master's Degree candidate in the Department of Electrical Engineering at UBC in Vancouver, B.C. I am working in the Pulp and Paper Centre under the direction of Dr. Guy Dumont. I am currently in my second year doing research in Adaptive Control.

I am investigating friction in control valves, and advanced compensation techniques to deal with the problem.  My work is being done within the context of the wet-end of a paper making machine.  I am developping a model of the system in an object oriented simulation language called OMSIM.  For further information on my research and the overall project I am involved in, see my Research Page

I was a TA for ELEC 256. I still have a page with information on it for those who need help.  It includes an FAQ list to help answer some basic questions about the program

Quick Personal Profile

I am happily married to my wife Sheriann, who is a Recreation Programmer at Minerou Hospital in Richmond.

Before we came here we lived in Banff for 3 years where I was self employed, consulting to Canadian Mountain Holidays.  I was part of a two (sometimes three) person team writing a reservations system for them in Gupta (now Centura) SQL Windows.

As you might guess, I am a keen windsurfer!
