Brandywine Meadows Wildflowers

The following wildflowers were photographed during a hike in the Brandywine Meadows,
south of Whistler, BC, Canada, on September 14, 2002.
Elevation approximately 1500-2000 m.

2005 - A dandelion or ???

2006 - Fringed Grass-of-Parnassus

2087 - A bunch of Parnassi

2008 - False Hellebore
This is a young plant, growing on the north side of the meadows.
It is normally green in summer, but provides some nice colour in September.

2016 - Mountain Fireweed

2018 - Red Monkeyflower

2044 - A bunch of monkeys.

2026 - Western Anemone
Most often seen in this seed stage, as the flowers don't last very long.

2039 - Partridge Foot and mountain fly

2041 - Mountain (Yellow) Monkey-flower

2046 - Tolmie's Saxifrage (thanks to Ken Yasuhara)

2054 - The ubiquitous Red Heather

2056 - Another Tolmie's Saxifrage with nice fall colours

2060 - Brandywine Mountain, our objective. 2200 m, 50 7'N, 123 13'E.

2061 - Mt. Cayley on the right, 5 km to the West. About 2330 m.

2065 - Rhizocarpon geographicum, the map lichen
When the flowers are gone, the rock lichens still provide some colour.

2066 - Partridgefoot - Luetkea pectinata (PM184)

2069 - The beginnings of a Partridgefoot - Luetkea pectinata, growing at 2000m on the ridge (same as 2066)

2072 - A Mountain Arnica ? p. 297, Pojar

2077 - On the way back down to the meadows

2081 - Mosses by a stream

2088 - Barclay's or Variable Willow with insect galls (PM87)

2089 - Black Huckleberry - Vaccinium membranaceum (PM57)

2090 - Once in a while, the False Hellebore has a flower

2091 - Leaving the meadows. 2800m (?) Mt. Garibaldi is 25 km to the south-east.
