Wildflowers of the Lower Stein Valley, Lytton, BC.
These wildflowers were photographed in the first 5 km of the lower Stein Valley,
during a field trip with
Botany BC on May 28, 2005.
The trail is accessed by taking a car/passenger reaction ferry a few km north of Lytton,
on the road to Lillouet.
Many thanks to Sharon Godkin for help in identifying the plants!
In some cases, the species are hard to identify.
Please let me know if there are some plants that are misidentified.
To view the flower in half size, move your mouse over the thumbnail.

then invoke "Save Image As" with the right mouse button.
Replace 9961 with the 4-digit number under the photo.
If you want the full size image (up to 2048 x 1536 pixels) or you want associated

The camera used is a 2002 Nikon Coolpix 885, typically in macro mode.
The page numbers refer to "Plants of Southern Interior British Columbia",
Parish, Coupe and Lloyd, Lone Pine Publishing, 1996,
where the plants are described.

9961 - This photo was taken from the terrace of the Anglican Parish Hall,
where we met for many of our meetings.
The black water of the Thompson River is joining the brown water of
the Fraser River. The train is moving, about as fast as the river,
pulling about 150 cars of coal destined for China.
The reaction ferry to the west side of the Fraser is near the top centre
of the photo.
9973 - The reaction ferry across the Fraser River just north of Lytton.
The ferry moves by angling its pontoons with respect to the fast moving river.
The ferry takes 2 cars and 20 people, and only takes about 5 minutes.
The photo is looking east across the river (after we crossed).
9974 - The Stein trailhead, about 5 km from the ferry.
