Donuts

<back

Soft white flour dough, deep-fried in grease, topped with sugar... have your donut with coffee (or booze) and you've got the four major food groups taken care of.

I seldom buy donut myself; in fact, I have only bought a plain donut once, at a grocery chain store named P.K. something in San Jose, CA. The donuts that I had eaten were all for free - they were bought by some managers at Friday mornings. Among the chocolate-glazed, jam-filled and candy-coated donuts, I always picked the plain ones.

Why do I classify it as forbidden food? It is because I can never stop at one, regardless of my hunger level. It is annoying to fight the thoughts of having another one. Must be it's the sugar and insulin effect.

Which is more sinful? Lavishness, or gluttony? I had a friend who once told me that vegetarianism is a cost-effective way of existence, and that's the reason he chose to become a vegetarian. Later I watched him devouring mountains at a buffet. I am not accusing him of hypocrisy; I just thought maybe we are only human, and it is hard for us to fight our survival instincts. Perhaps god (if He exists) expects too much from us.
