IEEE Communications Society Tour Thursday, March 11 at 7:30 PM Tour of the E-Comm Radio System by Michael Webb Wireless Technology Manager E-Comm Corporation Abstract: The E-Comm Project will implement a multi-site, multi-zone radio system providing trunked voice service as well as wireless data communications to public safety agencies and other municipal users in southwest British Columbia. Service will encompass the entire Greater Vancouver area, West and North to the Sunshine Coast and the Whistler and Pemberton area, and East through the Fraser Valley to Boston Bar and Manning Park. The radio system will employ the latest technologies to provide advance features such as wide radio roaming, interagency inter-operability, in-building coverage, digital encryption, selective calling, dynamic regrouping, paging, and extensive mobile data functionality. Speaker: After graduating from the University of Calgary with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1986 Mike spent 12 years with Northern Telecom/Nortel in Calgary, Vancouver and the UK. He worked in the areas of digital switching, network management systems, cellular/PCS and wireless local loop both in engineering, marketing and business development. He joined E-Comm in September 1998 as its Wireless Technology Manager. He is currently responsible for E-Comm's wireless voice and data technologies and operation of its network. Mike is a Professional Engineer in BC and has been an IEEE and Communications Society member since 1985. Time/Place: The tour will be held at the E-Comm Building, 3301 East Pender (Hastings and Cassiar) on Thursday, March 11 at 7:30 PM.
