EECE 563 : Wireless Communication Systems

Lectures and Tutorials

Lectures are currently scheduled for Fridays, from 3:30 to 6:30 PM in MacLeod (MCLD, Electrical Engineering) room 402.

Assignments

Assignment will be given out approximately once a week and will be due one week later. Solutions will be given out for all questions but some or all questions may not be marked. Late assignments will be given a mark of zero. Assignments should be handed in at the beginning of the lecture.

Assignments are to be done individually. Students are encouraged to seek help from classmates but copying is not allowed. Possible penalties for plagiarism include a mark of zero for all assignments.

Web Page

The course Web page (http://www.ece.ubc.ca/~edc/563) will be used to make announcements and to distribute course material. You can also use the Web page to check your marks. Any browser can be used read these pages.

The lecture notes, assignments and solutions will be available from the Web page in PDF format. Free software to view and print PDF documents (Ghostview, Adobe Acrobat) is available for most computers.

Mailing List

The lecturer will post important announcements about the course on the eece563-announce mailing list. All students in the course should subscribe to this mailing list.

Students should post questions or answers about the course material to the eece563 mailing list.

Text

The text for the course will be: The bookstore should have 7 copies of the book available at the start of the term and more within two weeks. You can also purchase this book on-line (e.g. from www.chapters.ca for $102).

A copy of the textbook will be put on reserve at the Main Library as soon as it is returned. It can then be taken out for a maximum loan period of 1 day.

Evaluation

There will be a one-hour mid-term examination in February and a 3-hour final exam in April. The final mark will be calculated as follows:
	final exam  		50%
	midterm exam 		30%
	assignments 		20%

Intended Audience

Graduate students in EECE who would like to learn about principles behind wireless communications systems.

Prerequisites

Student should have taken undergraduate courses in probability and communications.
