Jobs with BCIT IT Services

IT Services has openings for Student Interns – full-time (2014 summer) and part-time (2014/2015 academic year), at both the Downtown and Burnaby campuses.  See attached document for details.

Mid-Term Exam

will be scheduled the week of April 7.

"Lab 0" for BC Hydro Students

There will be a lab on Friday,  March 28 at 10:30AM for the BC Hydro students who are taking 3525 concurrently with 4550 and did not get a chance to use Wireshark last term.  This lab ("Lab 0") will not be counted toward the final mark in 4550.  The lab  has been posted to the content section of the course web site.  You do not have to submit the report for this lab (but you may want to keep a record of what you did since you will probably do the same lab in 3525).

Mid-Term Exam Date

The mid-term Exam will be on April 10 at 11:30 AM in SE6-209.  The exam will be 50 minutes long and will cover the material up to the end of Assignment 3.  Assignment 3 is due by midnight on April 8 and the solutions will be made available on April 9.

Tentative Lab/Lecture Schedule

The tentative schedule for the rest of the term:

Week of : Lecture topic(s) / Lab

Lab Report Due Dates

To allow enough time for marking, Lab reports 1-4 must be handed in by 11:59PM, Wednesday, May 14.

The report for Lab 5 must be handed in by 11:59PM on Friday, May 16.

You will not be able to submit reports after these deadlines.

Final Exam

Thursday, May 22 from 10:30 to 13:30 AM in SW1-3005.

Re-Submit Lab Reports in Correct Format

Please make sure all of your lab reports were/will be submitted in PDF format.

The 5 students who submitted 8 lab reports in incorrect formats (.zip and .docx) have had their submission deadlines extended until Friday at 11:59 PM so they can re-submit their reports in .pdf format.  You can then get credit for the lab (60%  or 75% of the lab mark) but not for the report (20% or 25%).  If  you do not re-submit in the correct format you will not get credit for completing these labs.

Pre-Exam Office Hours

If you have a question about the course material, here's your last chance to ask in person.

I'll be in my office (SW1-3061) on Tuesday, May 20 from 1:30 PM until everyone's questions have been answered. If many people show up we can move to a classroom (I'll post the location on the door).  Note that there may also be questions from students in other courses.

If your question is about your mark, please supply the details by e-mail instead.

Final Mark Calculation

How is the Final Mark Calculated?

The final mark is calculated by normalizing each marked component by its maximum, multiplying the results by the appropriate weight as shown below, and summing.

Please Check Your Marks

Please check your Assignment, Lab and Mid-Term marks to make sure they have been recorded and computed correctly.

You can check your marks using the form in the marks HTML file under Content / Course Information.  To retrieve your marks you'll need the individual password given to you in the last week of classes.  If you don't have this password, please send me (ecasas@bcit.ca) an e-mail (but not from the course web site).

The marking scheme for each marked item is described under Content / Marking Scheme.

The formula used for computing the final mark and for determining lab completion is given below.

All marks are subject to change (up or down).
