Benedito Donizeti Bonatto was born in Conchal-SP, Brazil, on August 05, 1966. He received with honors the B.A.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Federal School of Engineering of Itajubá (EFEI), Itajubá-MG, Brazil, in 1991, and the M.A.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP), Campinas-SP, Brazil, in 1995. He concluded in 2001 his Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy) degree at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of The University of British Columbia (UBC), Vancouver, B.C., Canada, under the supervision of Dr.-Ing. Hermann W. Dommel (the author of the EMTP - Electromagnetic Transients Program).
His professional experience was enriched with activities in generation, transmission and distribution companies as well as in industries. He joined in 1994, the Companhia Energética de São Paulo S.A. (CESP), and after its privatization he has been with ELEKTRO - Eletricidade e Serviços S.A., Campinas-SP, Brazil, where his main tasks were power quality monitoring, diagnosis and proposal of solutions for power quality problems to distribution customers . He also joined CEETEPS - Centro Estadual de Educação Tecnológica Paula Souza, São Paulo-SP, Brazil, in 1995 as a teacher for electrical and electronics technical high school courses.
Since September 1997 he is on leave of absence from ELEKTRO in order to develop his Ph.D. research project at UBC, Vancouver, B.C., Canada, with the financial support provided by CAPES - Fundação Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior, Brasília-DF, Brazil. His field of interests include simulation and analysis of electromagnetic transients phenomena in electric power systems, power electronics, and power quality issues. Mr. Bonatto is a member of the IEEE - The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and a registered professional engineer in the São Paulo State, Brazil.
